Description from the seller

The shield and quiver were collected in the Hindukush Mountains of Afghanistan in the early 1970's. They are reminiscent from items used by the Tibetan tribes that also ruled across the region: The small compact shield and short arrows (the quiver measures 56 cm) are typical for warriors and hunters on horseback.

The shield is made of leather, most likely buffalo hide and shows signs of wear and age. The top layer has worn off on some places showing a red under-layer. The metal work is in good condition and the shield is solid whiles slightly curved.

The quiver is made of wood and leather with some fine details of craftsmanship. The inside is wood, wrapped around and stitched tightly with leather.

The items formed part of an extended collection of private Afghan ethnographic art, tools and weapons.

The estimated age of these items are set at the 19th century, but could well be older.

Shield: 48cm x 43cm (round but slightly curved)
Quiver: 56cm x 9cm at widest point.

All items will be carefully packed and shipped with insurance.
