Carriages and horses were long-time good companions, then freed from their heavy harness, the horses themselves disappeared. As for the carriages, they reveal to us, in this delicate composition with a chiselled line, their antique charm and the remarkable artisanal workmanship of which France was one of the most prestigious centers. In colored emblems or at the center of the square, open calèches, elegant coupés, berlines, or high‑carriage phaetons testify to the refinement of an entire era.
