Description from the seller
The Musical Fidelity A220 (often referred to as the FET A220, due to the MOSFET output transistors used) is a legendary, UK-built Class A integrated amplifier from the 1990s. Within the audio community, it is renowned for its smooth, warm, and tube-like sound character.
This one is fully re-capped with high grade capacitors.
Key Specifications
• Power Output: 50 watts per channel into 8Ω (up to 100 watts into 4Ω). Although 50 watts may sound modest, the pure Class A design delivers remarkable control and deep, powerful bass in practice.
• Distortion (THD): Less than 0.01% at 1kHz.
• Frequency Response: 10Hz to 20kHz (+1dB).
• Inputs: Equipped with 5 line-level inputs and an excellent built-in MM (Moving Magnet) phono stage for turntables.
• Weight & Dimensions: A solid, heavy build weighing 12 kg, with dimensions of 440 x 120 x 360 mm.
• Power Consumption: Approximately 350 watts.
Sound and Characteristics
The A220 was designed in the minimalist British hi-fi tradition. Its front panel features a clean, semi-gloss black finish, accented by large, gold-rimmed knobs for volume and source selection. It intentionally omits tone controls (such as bass and treble adjustments) and headphone jacks, ensuring the signal path remains as pure as possible. The result is a highly musical and detailed presentation that trades analytical sharpness for analog warmth.
