Description from the seller

Jules Bart – Débouchtout corkscrew, 1928
After his release from imprisonment following World War I, Jules Bart settled in Nancy, where he founded his company, the Ateliers Jules Bart.

From 1919 he produced his iconic telescoping corkscrew, the Zig-Zag, protected by French patent No. 503,957 of 17 September 1919. This model became the first French telescopic system of its kind and enjoyed considerable commercial success.

When competitors later introduced simpler and cheaper corkscrews, Bart responded by developing a more compact and economical alternative.

Thus in 1928 he began production of the Débouchtout, registered as supplementary patent No. 34,535 to the original Zig-Zag patent. The model retained the lever principle, but in a simplified construction, intended to compete in the lower price segment.

Markings on the corkscrew:
DÉBOUCHTOUT (cast in the lever arm)
Bté S.G.D.G.
MARQUE EN MODÈLE DÉPOSÉS
FRANCE ET ÉTRANGER
