Description from the seller
Here is a splendid and iconic Canon Dial 35-2, produced in Japan starting in 1968. This camera is a cult object in the world of collecting and street photography for its unique industrial/space-age design and its operating mechanism.
This is a "Half-Frame" camera (Medium Format): it shoots 18x24mm images on standard 35mm film. This allows for 72 shots (or more) on a usual 36-exposure roll.
Its distinctive feature is the integrated clockwork spring motor in the lower cylindrical grip: by manually winding the spring, the camera advances the film automatically after each shot, without the need for batteries for advance.
Technical Specifications:
• Manufacturer: Canon Inc., Japan
• Model: Dial 35-2 (improved version of the original Dial 35)
• Lens: Canon SE 28mm f/2.8 (5 elements in 3 groups). A sharp and bright lens.
• Shutter: Mechanical, speeds from 1/30 to 1/250 s.
• Focus: Zone focusing (via symbols in the viewfinder) with distance estimation.
• ISO/ASA Sensitivity: Adjustable from 10 to 1000 ASA via the iconic front dial (reminiscent of the dial on old telephones).
• Metering Power: Requires 1 PX625 1.3V battery (for the automatic exposure metering). Note: the camera also shoots mechanically without a battery.
The item presents in good/very good cosmetic condition for its age (see detailed photos).
• Body: Solid build. Normal signs of age and light scratches on the silver finish due to use (visible especially on the rear edges), which do not detract from its beauty. The black faux-leather parts are intact.
• The wind-up mechanism winds correctly.
• The shutter fires.
• Optics: The lens appears clean on visual inspection.
• Film Chamber and Seals: The interior is clean; however, note that the light seals are original and degraded (crumbled due to age, visible in photos). For optimal photographic use, the buyer should replace the foam seals (a routine service for cameras of this era).
• Electronics/Exposure Meter: The battery compartment is present and appears free of significant corrosion (original sticker present).
