Pratone, designed by Gruppo Strum (Giorgio Ceretti, Pietro Derossi, Riccardo Rosso) and manufactured by Gufram in Italy, circa 1986 as one of 200 numbered copies, made from polyurethane with dimensions 140 x 140 x 95 cm and kept in very good condition with minor signs of wear for its age.
Description from the seller
Rare and splendid Pratone by Gufram from 1986
Designed in 1971 by Gruppo Strum — Giorgio Ceretti, Pietro Derossi and Riccardo Rosso, and produced by Gufram.
This is the ‘Pratone’
This object-environment interprets the idea of seating, reflecting the radical attitude of Italian design in the Seventies.
Its form, made of long vertical elements in flexible polyurethane, evokes an oversized grassy plain, conceived to accommodate the body in an informal way.
The cover, in green Guflac, protects the structure and preserves its iconic appearance.
Exhibited in major museum collections, Pratone is not only a piece to live with, but also a fragment of design history.
This is an object that revolves around the concept of maximum expression of creativity at the expense of even functional needs.
Not by chance Pratone, besides being an unusual seat where the user lies down in a completely unconventional way among the enormous soft blades of grass that compose it, is primarily a contemporary decorative art piece, which thus contains the whole concept of uselessness carried by the term "art".
The seat is nonetheless functional in its purpose, allowing a comfortable position even if unconventional.
Pratone is made from a single material; it is in fact one single piece of expanded polyurethane, foamed at room temperature and coated in a patent washable paint by Gufram itself, called "Guflac".
The material has a density such that it gives the stems excellent mechanical properties, especially regarding their elastic deformation; the stems, in fact, easily return to their initial shape after use.
In the case of this Pratone, we are talking about the production of the 1986 multiples.
Produced in only 200 copies worldwide, all numbered.
An icon of Italian design and a piece of world design history.
It is kept in excellent condition for the era it belongs to.
It is a collectible object of its kind, sure to appreciate, and currently impossible to find on the market due to the highly limited edition.
Dimensions: 140 x 140 x H 95 cm
Shipping costs already include packing and a custom wooden crate made to measure for the armchair, given its substantial size.
P.S. I do not ship to the United States due to logistics and bureaucracy.
