A fascinating and attractively illustrated volume, capturing the essence of Edinburgh's unique history, a beautiful book and nice addition to any collection specialising in travel or Scotland history.
The book is beautifully and colourfully illustrated with 52 single-sided coloured plates on coated paper, including tissue-guarded frontispiece, by Herbert Railton and J. Ayton Symington, 14 reproduction from pictures, 20 tinted illustrations, and 31 illustrations within text.
Published by J. M. Dent & Co., London, 1904. Publisher’s original richly gilt decorated blue cloth boards, with gilt design and gilt lettering on upper board and spine. Top page edges gilt.

Condition
The book is beautifully bound, designed and illustrated. Firm, and well bound. External covers in nice shape, with light wear to corners, and to head and foot of spine. Internally the book is in very good condition. No names or inscriptions. Spotting to prelims but text is generally clean, with light foxing to the margin of few pages. All pages are tightly held at the gutter. Inner hinges are very good. The attractive illustrations make this a truly beautiful book (Please see pictures).
