Mamluk medieval jar from the 14th century in glazed ceramic
Mamluk period, tall jar in white ceramic with a wide rim, decorated with a cobalt blue motif on a white background.
Slender baluster-shaped vase, with a short neck and flared rim, placed on a flat base.
Body painted in blue on a white ground with two medallions containing a central motif, alternated with a rich floral pattern.
Beautiful ancient patina, excellent condition, slight restoration.
Dimensions: Height 11.2 cm, Diameter 7.3 cm
The blue-and-white, the lobed medallions, the floral motif and the ginger-pot shape of this vase were inspired by the Yuan Chinese dynasty.
Persia, Egypt or Syria, medieval period, 13th/14th century AD.
Provenance: United Kingdom, A.P.L. Gallery.
Previously: Owned by a London-based collector specializing in Islamic art; formerly in a collection formed since the 1980s.
