Saverio Gargiulo of Naples presents a brass Teodolite-Bussola (Celerimetro) dating from ca. 1900–1910, in good used condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
Theodolite-Compass (celerimeter) manufactured by the historic firm Saverio Gargiulo, excellence of instrumental mechanics of Naples between the late 19th and early 20th century.
The instrument is a magistral example of Italian scientific craftsmanship. It is made entirely of oxidized brass and preserves its splendid original patina, never altered by invasive restorations.
Main features:
Manufacturer: Saverio Gargiulo - Naples (Signature engraved inside the compass).
Components: Telescope with intact optics, upper bubble level, and vertical graduated circle for measuring zenith angles.
Integrated Compass: Large central compass with a compass rose in Italian language (N, SO, NO) and original magnetic needle.
Base: Three leveling screws for precision leveling.
Condition: Excellent cosmetic conservation state. The mechanical parts and screws are movable. The instrument is sold as a collectible/display piece (not tested for professional or current use).
Given the nature and historical value of Saverio Gargiulo’s instrument, I guarantee packaging of superior standards to prevent any damage during transport:
Mechanical Locking: All movable parts (telescope and leveling screws) will be secured to avoid internal vibrations.
Optics Protection: The compass and telescope lenses will be protected by rigid layers before wrapping.
Double-Box System: The instrument will be placed in a first inner layer of high-density bubble wrap, which in turn will be placed in an inner box. This inner box will be suspended in a second, larger outer box, with an interspace of at least 5 cm of cushioning material on all sides.
Signage: The package will clearly bear the markings "Fragile" and "Top/Do not overturn"
