These nuggets come from the desert region of Tiris Zemmour in the north of Mauritania, more than a hundred kilometers from an area called Guelb Ndour
Gold mining in this country had been reserved only for a large industrial company.
But since 2016 individual mining is allowed using metal detectors.
I offer them as I found them, I have only cleaned them with soapy water.
The gold from this region is quite pure, in general its purity is around 950 to 980 permille, which corresponds to 22.80 to 23.50 carats
Although gold mining has become one of Mauritania's primary resources, the nuggets are fairly rare because almost all of the gold is melted into bars which are then sent to Dubai
