Jan Cremer, writer and artist, was born in 1940 in Enschede. His father died in 1942, which meant that Jan's upbringing was entirely the responsibility of his mother. Jan's mother, Rosza Csordás Szomorkay, was Hungarian and studied at the conservatory in Budapest. After the war, Jan Cremer was placed in foster homes and colony houses by child protection services. In his fifties he held various jobs, served with the marines, and spent some time as a deckhand on the open seas. In 1958 he attended a few months of training at the art academies in Arnhem and The Hague. Cremer lived for a time on Ibiza and left for New York in 1964. He then lived alternately in America and Europe. As a writer, Cremer shot to fame with “Ik Jan Cremer” (1964). It is a picaresque novel with sex, violence, and adventure. As a result, the literary merit of his authorship was not held in uniformly high regard by everyone. The novel was kept out of libraries for a long time. “Ik Jan Cremer” appeared in many languages. In addition to novels, Jan Cremer wrote travelogues and plays. Cremer’s art consists of paintings, graphics and gouaches and often depicts Dutch, and also Italian, landscapes in vivid colours.
Viewing is of course possible. In addition we have our own in-house framing shop, celebrating its 85th anniversary year. Furthermore, we make use of restorers from the professional association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to use this, of course we would be happy to hear from you.
