Historical & cultural context
M.&P. (Smulders) aniseed milk tablets have a rich Dutch history and have been produced in Rotterdam since 1854. The tablets were a classic household product, widely used to prepare anijsmelk in a simple way by dissolving a tablet in hot milk. Such products were part of everyday domestic culture in the Netherlands and were commonly marketed through visually strong counter displays like this example.

Surviving original shop display boxes from this period are increasingly scarce, as they were utilitarian retail items and usually discarded after use. This example represents an authentic fragment of early 20th-century Dutch commercial and pharmaceutical advertising culture.

Carefully packed and shipped worldwide.
