The two half-years are bound into a single substantial volume. The year is thus complete.
Le Monde illustré offers a detailed panorama of current political, cultural, and international news under the Third Republic. A reference illustrated journal, it stands out for the richness of its iconography, its reportage, its portraits, and its chronicles on social, political, and artistic life.
The year 1880 is marked by major events: the amnesty of the Communards in France, the inauguration of Cologne Cathedral in Germany after centuries of work, the first official celebration of July 14 as a French national holiday, the first Boer War in South Africa, and the progressive completion of the Panama Canal under the direction of Ferdinand de Lesseps, the maritime fêtes of Cherbourg, Aida by Verdi, etc.
The work contains numerous illustrations, including some in double page, caricatures, as well as fold-out panoramas (up to 1 meter long).
