Description from the seller

This ceiling lamp, originally an oil quinqué and converted to electricity in the early 20th century, preserves all the ornamental elegance of the Louis XV style and the warm presence of the noble materials with which it was conceived.

Structure and materials

The metal body is made of gilded brass, worked with sinuous and vegetal ornamentation typical of French Rococo. The soft curves, volutes, and small decorative volumes convey a sense of movement and lightness, very characteristic of the refined taste of the eighteenth-century court, reinterpreted in later eras.

The piece hangs from decorative chains, also in gilded brass, which visually balance the ensemble and reinforce its antique air. The upper support and the arms that hold the tulip shade show careful craftsmanship, with reliefs and details that evoke the tradition of palatial lighting.

Tulip shade and light

The quinqué is crowned by a white opaline glass shade, blown with a smooth and homogeneous finish that diffuses the light warmly and evenly. The opaline, highly valued in antique lamps, provides a milky glow that softens the illumination and enhances the gilding of the metal.

Electrical conversion and technical condition

As with many pieces of its time, this quinqué was converted into an electric lamp in the early 20th century, keeping its original structure but adapting to new lighting needs. Due to its age, it is common for the wiring to require modernization, both for safety and to ensure stable operation in accordance with current regulations.

Decorative presence

The overall effect conveys a mix of romance and nobility, ideal for classic interiors, country houses, rooms with exposed woodwork, or spaces seeking a touch of historical theatricality. Its symmetry against a window and the contrast between the white opaline shade and the dark curtains enhance its value as a focal piece.

Certified shipment and careful packaging.
