Description from the seller
this is a leica boowu “hilfsgerät” (auxiliary reproduction device), an original ernst leitz wetzlar set for reproduction/copies of documents with leica rangefinder cameras.
the boowu consists of three support rings with leica m mount (here visible at the bottom) and a series of black rods with aluminum terminals that define the distance and the copy format (DIN A6, A5, A4) for reproduction ratios 1:4, 1:6 and 1:9. by mounting the leica body on this system and placing it above the work surface, you obtain an extremely precise copy stand for duplicating photographs, pages of books or documents.
the example in your photos is particularly interesting because it appears complete with the original red leica box and all the main components, with the bases bearing the inscription “ernst leitz wetzlar germany” clearly legible: a niche accessory, but highly sought after by collectors and by those who digitize film archives with leica cameras.
