Schatz Royal Mariner barometer with thermometer, in a brass and glass housing, Ø180 mm and 18 cm tall and 18 cm wide, originating from Denmark, modern style, estimated period 1980–1990, weight 1013 g, in excellent working condition.
Description from the seller
Vintage barometer by the Schatz brand, model Royal Mariner Ø180 Barometer - late 20th century - original price more than €400.
The classic Schatz barometer from the Royal Mariner series features a polished brass housing with a glass plate and a beautiful open dial. This special nautical instrument consists of a barometer and thermometer made of high-quality brass. The barometer and thermometer have a porthole at the front for easy access to the internals and are weatherproof, so you can also use the instrument outdoors.
Your Schatz barometer is calibrated to sea level before leaving our factory. If the location where you use the barometer is above sea level, you must calibrate it yourself.
To calibrate your barometer correctly, compare the reading with that of a correctly calibrated barometer in your region. You can also consult the weather forecast in your local residence. There you will find the current air pressure for your region.
To calibrate your barometer, proceed as follows:
Open the small back cover plate to reveal the adjustment screw. Turn this screw clockwise until the barometer needle indicates the desired value.
Before reading the barometer, gently tap it to check that the needle moves freely. Then adjust the needle on the glass so that it covers the black needle.
The next time you read the barometer, you can see whether it has risen or fallen. Generally, a rising barometer (the black needle moves clockwise) indicates good weather, while a falling barometer (the black needle moves counterclockwise) indicates poor weather. If the barometer falls rapidly, you can expect stormy weather within a few hours. If the barometer rises rapidly — 10-20 millibars in a few hours — unstable weather and often strong winds are to be expected. A steadily falling or rising barometer indicates good or bad weather for about 12 to 24 hours ahead. An unchanged barometer reading suggests that the weather will remain stable.
This large barometer is equipped with a thermometer in the lower part of the scale. It shows the temperature in Celsius above and Fahrenheit below the thermometer glass.
Dimensions: H 9.5 cm x Ø 18 cm
Weight: 1013 grams
This item has been tested to be working and is in excellent preserved condition with no defects. It will be securely packed for safe shipping, sent by registered mail with tracking and insured delivery.
