Unit flag of 5 Commando ANC (Armée Nationale Congolaise) led by Major "Mad Mike" Hoare from the Congo Crisis period, the 1960s. This elite mercenary unit consisted largely of volunteers/mercenaries from Belgium, South Africans, Brits, Rhodesians and played an important role during the fighting in the Congo in the 1960s-70s. Active against the Simba rebels. Known for operations such as Operation Dragon Rouge (Stanleyville). Although Mik Hoare is often mentioned, there were also Belgian officers, including Peeters, involved in later phases and sub-units.
