Description from the seller
Designed with the utmost fidelity and academic rigor, this sculpture represents a reproduction with extremely high fidelity of the Hellenistic original kept in the Vatican Museums. The artisanal production process was guided by the quest for maximum accuracy: the work presents no discrepancies in its details compared to the original masterpiece, offering a rendering of volumes and muscular tensions of absolute scientific and artistic rigor.
For the piece, the most powerful and iconic portion of the sculptural group was selected: the full bust up to the waist, dominated by the famous face etched with pain and exertion. This compositional choice allows focusing attention on the extraordinary anatomy and the theatrical expressiveness that made Laocoön the universal symbol of pathos in classical art.
Unlike common scagliola, the bust is molded in a special high-density reinforced plaster, a noble material that guarantees superior durability and impeccable definition of the details.
The work is entirely handcrafted, with the care typical of the finest Italian academic plaster workshops, where the author of this reproduction trained himself.
The surface is treated to achieve a sought-after textured material feel, designed to evoke the allure of ancient artifacts. It should be noted that this effect is a deliberate artistic choice: the object is new and in pristine conservational condition. With a height of 46 cm, the work possesses a majesty that makes it an element of decor of rare elegance, capable of ennobling any room.
