About the artist:
John Valyrakis is a contemporary Greek painter born and raised in Athens, where he lives and works. His painting questions universal themes of solitude, separation, complicity, and human connection, exploring the delicate relationship between form, color, and emotion.
Oscillating between figuration and abstraction, his compositions feature human figures evolving in suggestive spaces, as if viewed through a keyhole. The artist himself explains that his characters “challenge the viewer regarding their gender identity,” making the human body beyond any categorization a central narrative focus.
After studying in Athens and Architectural Renovation in Patras, he continued his training in the United Kingdom, where he received a scholarship at Loughborough School of Arts and studied Visual Arts at South Nottingham College, earning a Master’s in 2D and 3D visualization. These experiences enrich his practice, allowing him to articulate a painting that is both sensitive and conceptual.
Valyrakis has worked as a freelance artist in the UK and has exhibited internationally, collaborating with institutions such as Backlit Studios, Surface Gallery, Arbitrage Magazine, the British Council, and the International Olympic Truce Organization.
Back in Athens, he pursues a dynamic career, exhibiting in galleries and contemporary art fairs. His work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions, notably at the Art Athina International Art Fair and in galleries and spaces recognized in Greece and abroad.
John Valyrakis develops a contemporary painting where emotion, abstraction, and figuration dialog with finesse. His work attracts the attention of collectors who appreciate painting that combines introspection, refined aesthetics, and narrative depth.
Represented by galleries and present on the international market, he emerges as a significant contemporary figure, revealing an ability to articulate a traditional pictorial language and visual innovation.
