Commemorative Medal for the 100th Anniversary of Kaiser Wilhelm I (Zentenarmedaille), instituted in Prussia in 1897.
Date of Establishment: March 22, 1897, by Kaiser Wilhelm II in honor of the 100th anniversary of the birth of his grandfather, Wilhelm I.
Awarded to: All active-duty Prussian military personnel, veterans of the wars of 1848, 1849, 1864, 1866, and 1870–1871, and civil servants.
Material: Traditionally minted from bronze obtained from melted-down captured French cannons from the Franco-Prussian War.
On the ribbon of the medal is a badge in the form of an Iron Cross, which indicates that the Cavalier was awarded it, as well as a lapel miniature of the Iron Cross.
