In this extraordinary oil painting on canvas, we face a work of deep visual drama and refined technique, blending hyperrealism with a geometrical-contemporary composition. The image presents the face of a woman cut into fragments of color that simulate crystal planes or cross-cut beams of light, in a visual tension that alludes to both cinematic and sculptural at once.
The face emerges from a dark, enveloping background that intensifies the intensity of the colors applied: a palette of magentas and purples gliding over the left side of the face, and a deep blue embracing the right side. These colors are not there merely as chromatic contrast, but as an emotional narrative that splits the figure’s identity into two states: fire and ice, passion and introspection.
The light has been treated with indisputable mastery. The artist commands the transition between zones of extreme shadow and zones of controlled brightness, sculpting the facial anatomy with a precision reminiscent of the most sophisticated studio photography. Yet there is something beyond technical mastery: an atmosphere of mystery that makes the viewer not only see, but feel observed. The gaze of the figure, intense and frontal, cuts through the color planes as if it could break the pictorial veil that contains it.
The oil texture is extremely polished, almost invisible, serving a smooth and detailed finish that recalls hyperrealism but, thanks to the use of abstract color blocks, avoids falling into mere virtuosity. The result is a piece that balances emotion and control, structure and sensuality.
Ideal for contemporary art collections, this work presents itself as a point of tension between the classical and the avant-garde. For an auction like Catawiki, it constitutes a high-visual-impact offering that will attract both portrait collectors and lovers of geometric-emotional art.
“Geometry of the Gaze” is not merely a painting; it is a visual duel between light and shadow, between what is revealed and what remains hidden. A modern mirror of the female soul.
