Sheaffer Balance/Touchdown fountain pen, manufactured in the United States from plastic resin, with a 14K solid gold nib engraved 'Sheaffer’s 33 – Made in U.S.A. – 14K', 12.8 cm long and 1 cm in diameter, in good used condition with minor signs of age and in working order.
Description from the seller
The pen is in very good overall condition, notable for its elegant finish in red/burgundy resin, which maintains shine, color uniformity, and a highly attractive aesthetic presence.
The body retains good luster, with no visible cracks or deformations. Very slight micro-scratches characteristic of use and the passage of time are noticeable only under direct light and at certain angles, without negatively affecting the aesthetics or the structural integrity of the piece.
The engraving on the body, “W.A. Sheaffer Pen Co. – Fort Madison, Iowa, U.S.A.”, remains well defined and legible, something particularly valuable in this model.
The gold clip presents excellent visual presence, with a uniform shine and correct alignment. A light patina and micro-scratches consistent with its age can be seen, without significant loss of plating or deformations. The gold joining ring maintains good alignment and stability.
The solid 14K gold nib, engraved “Sheaffer’s 33 – Made in U.S.A. – 14K”, is structurally intact, with crisp engravings and good finish conservation. It shows slight patina and microscopic signs of use normal for a vintage piece, with no cracks or visible damage. The tip shows correct alignment and even wear consistent with use, with no dents observed.
The feed maintains good definition in its channels and solid structure.
Regarding the Touchdown filling system (pneumatic with an inner tube and rubber sac), the full set characteristic of the model is evident. Visually, the mechanism retains its original structure. As with all vintage sac-filled pieces, it may require maintenance or replacement of the sac to ensure optimal operation if it has not been recently restored.
Overall, this is a well-preserved vintage Sheaffer Touchdown 33, with honest wear consistent with its age, maintaining structural integrity, good legibility of engravings, and a very attractive aesthetic presence for both collection and use.
It will be shipped in a courtesy box to preserve the piece’s integrity.
