AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Brutalist solid glass candle holder – Göran Wärff for Kosta Boda, Sweden, 1970s

Sculptural clear solid glass candle holder designed by Göran Wärff for Kosta Boda, Sweden, in the 1970s.

The piece consists of a thick, compact base from which several vertical forms rise, evoking fingers or organic growths that surround and protect the candle. This construction creates a strong contrast between the stable mass of the base and the vertical tension of the ascending elements.

The glass, worked in substantial thickness, captures and refracts light, producing subtle optical effects when the candle is lit. The transparency of the material highlights internal variations and the characteristic reflections of Scandinavian glass from the 1970s.

With its monolithic appearance, its asserted materiality, and its almost architectural presence, this candle holder is part of a Brutalist aesthetic, while preserving an organic and sculptural dimension unique to Göran Wärff’s work.

Can accommodate a tealight or a round candle of about 5 cm in diameter.

Condition: very good vintage condition, with no chips or cracks.

Dimensions:
Height: 9.5 cm
Diameter: 9.5 cm

A decorative and sculptural object, representative of the experimental approach to glass in 1970s Scandinavian design.
