Volkswagen Golf GTI Edition, 1996, manual, 2.0 L petrol, 115 HP, Spanish registration, 72,700 km, in very good overall condition.
Description from the seller
GENERAL
This unit corresponds to the legendary Volkswagen Golf GTI MK3 8v Edition, a model that at the time celebrated the 20th anniversary of the GTI concept (1976-1996), solidifying the Golf as the benchmark for sporty compact cars. It is an exceptionally exclusive piece not only because of its color combination but also due to its extremely low mileage of just 72,200 kilometers. It stands out especially for equipped with original leather upholstery, an extremely uncommon extra for the units of the era, making it a highly valuable specimen for collectors.
BODYWORK AND PAINT
In terms of bodywork, the vehicle remains in an honest condition with signs of age. It shows light scratches on both sides and minimal rubbing on the driver's door, whose plastic trim has recently been replaced with a new piece identical to the original. There are small dents on the left front fender and on the driver's door, as well as a very slight deformation barely perceptible behind the front grille. There is a small rust spot located on the left rear door frame, while all glass, rubbers, and the rest of the exterior mouldings are in perfect condition.
MECHANICS
The mechanical section stands out for flawless operation, with an engine and a transmission that run with absolute smoothness. The car starts perfectly both cold and hot and shows no oil leaks. Recently the timing kit, including the water pump and auxiliary belts, have been replaced, all properly documented with invoices. Additionally, the previous owner carried out the clutch kit replacement together with preventive maintenance of oil and filters. The brakes, shock absorbers, and tires are in good usable condition.
INTERIOR
The cabin presents an outstanding state of conservation, highlighted by its rare black leather upholstery that shows no tears or loose stitches, displaying only a slight wear on one area of the rear seat. The headliner has been reupholstered recently with a fabric similar to the original to correct sagging of the previous lining. All electrical components function correctly, including the adjustable mirrors, instrumentation, lighting, and front power windows. The air conditioning system is present, though it currently requires a refrigerant recharge.
DOCUMENTATION
The vehicle has its current Technical Inspection (ITV) valid until December 2026, with the report from the latest inspection showing no faults. It is delivered with the original owner’s manuals and has two keys, one original and one functional copy, both linked to the car’s electronic immobilizer system.
PICKUP
The vehicle will be handed over at its location, where the buyer can verify the described condition before arranging transport. The car is road-ready due to its recent maintenance and current inspection status.
OTHER INFORMATION
This Golf GTI represents a unique opportunity to acquire a “youngtimer” in a state of originality that is hard to find today. The combination of the 2.0 8-valve engine, known for its robustness and strong low-end torque, along with the optional leather equipment and its low-use history, position it as a solid investment and a vehicle for immediate enjoyment.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
