Karl Lagasse, a renowned artist, gained fame in 2009 with his One Dollar sculptures, ranking that year among the ten best sculptors under 30 according to Artprice. In 2012, the New York publication Farameh named him as one of the fifty best contemporary artists, inspired by traditional American icons, in its book FOR WHICH IT STANDS: Americana in Contemporary Art. More recently, in 2016, at the Art Paris Art Fair, the President of the French Republic warmly congratulated Karl for his impressive 2-meter bronze sculpture, One Dollar, exhibited at the Grand Palais.
Karl’s artistic journey began at age 7 with collages, prompted by his meeting with sculptor César Baldaccini. He then turned to tagging and graffiti in the Paris metro while remaining passionate about collages. The artist Yvaral Vasarely encouraged him to fuse his tags with his collages. In 2003, Karl prepared his first exhibition in Paris, which led to his first solo show in 2006 at the Isy Brachot gallery in Brussels. In 2008, he returned to Paris with an exhibition combining paintings, sculptures, and video elements at the Espace Pierre Cardin.
Karl particularly enjoys unveiling his works at international exhibitions. In 2011, he was represented by the Bel Air Fine Art gallery at the Art Monaco fair with his Cryptogram One creation. The following year, he presented his One Dollar works on the theme “In God We Trust” at the Artco France gallery. His 2016 solo show at the Atrium gallery in Marbella, Spain, was inaugurated by the mayor, who praised his works to the international press.
