Description from the seller

It is a Russian Orthodox icon of the Great Feasts (Dodecaorton) with the Resurrection at the center.

In the center appears Jesus Christ in the Resurrection scene (Anástasis), descending to Hades and raising Adam and Eve. It is a very typical composition of Russian art from the 17th–19th centuries.

Around it are depicted the main episodes of the Orthodox liturgical calendar, including:

Nativity of the Virgin
Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple
Annunciation
Nativity of Christ
Presentation of the Lord
Baptism (Theophany)
Entry into Jerusalem
Transfiguration
Crucifixion
Ascension
Pentecost
Dormition of the Virgin

On the right side it reads in ecclesiastical Slavonic “Успение Богородицы” (Dormition of the Mother of God).

Gold background (gold leaf).

Egg tempera on panel.

Inscriptions in ecclesiastical Slavonic.

Russian folk style, probably from a provincial workshop.

From the style and the visible aging, it could date roughly to the eighteenth or nineteenth century.
