Ancient Wrought-Iron Bed Headboard – Italian Craftsmanship with Cromolithographic Religious Medallions – Early 20th Century
Description of the Item
Charming double bed headboard in full Italian Liberty/Eclectic style, entirely handmade in wrought iron.
The distinctive feature is the presence of two rare circular medallions inset into the iron weave, preserving sacred images of the period (probably cromolithographs on metal or protected pressed cardboard):
Upper Medallion:
Depicts the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Lower Medallion:
Depicts the Madonna in the Seat of Wisdom (Madonna della Seggiola, inspired by Raphael) with the Infant Jesus and Saint John the Little.
The structure is characterized by elegant curling volutes and vertical uprights ending in solid iron ball finials. The patina of time is authentic and gives the piece a rustic devotional flavor typical of noble country houses or manor homes from the early 1900s.
