Jacques Doucet was born on 9 April 1924 in Boulogne-Billancourt. He was active as a painter. During the war Doucet was interned as a political prisoner, an experience that would influence his work as a painter. At the end of World War II he studied at the academy in Montparnasse. In 1947 he met Corneille (1922-2010), who involved him with the Dutch Experimental Group in Holland (1948). He designed the cover for the second issue of Reflex.
In 1948 he joined Cobra with Jean-Michel Atlan (1913-1960), where he would be active in maintaining contacts. His work was present at the Amsterdam exhibition in 1949 as well as at the one in Liège in 1951. Doucet worked with all kinds of materials. After his encounters with Cobra he began to paint more and more abstractly. His work has regularly been shown in exhibitions in France, Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands.
