Description from the seller
The works of Frank Lengvenius can hold the viewer’s attention endlessly. He paints urban life in a passionate way. Towering houses, symbolic female figures, embryos, bridges and arrows that stream with thoughts, memories, perhaps even love signified. The whole surface is filled with layer upon layer of color in extremely refined compositions and vividly worked with linearity in brushwork and chalk. The remarkable thing is that his earlier paintings were monumental and black. Black matter, paintings with gray fields as if toppled tombstones. Now they are, by contrast, as bright and eloquent as flags.
On every panel about the size of a hand, something is happening. Sometimes they have the color of night, sometimes the color and brightness of day. Sometimes they are blood-red, dark blue and black: a drama. Sometimes tender in turquoise and pink, sometimes exuberant, with rays in all directions. Festive, as if there is music accompanying them.
