Description from the seller
Anton Heyboer – Baddames op het Strand (pastel/crayon)
A lively and intimate impression of life on the beach, captured in Heyboer's characteristic, spontaneous style. With loose, forceful lines and soft blocks of color, he conveys not so much a detailed depiction as a feeling: the warmth of the sun, the gentle movement of the sand, and the relaxed presence of the figures.
Through the use of pastel and crayon, a soft, almost dreamlike atmosphere emerges, while the dynamic line work gives the piece energy and rhythm. A beautiful example of Heyboer's ability to create a strong, emotional image with minimal means.
Anton Heyboer (1924-2005)
Due to his unconventional way of life, Anton Heyboer belonged to the most eccentric Dutch artists of the past decades. His turbulent lifestyle was reflected in five marriages. He also described himself as 'the Robin Hood of the art world,' referring to his prolific art production. Heyboer trained as a mechanical engineer. After World War II he began drawing, though still in a traditional style at first. Between 1954 and 1957 he developed his own philosophical framework on which his abstract works were based. Yet figurative elements always remain present in his paintings and etchings. He also clarified the themes of his work with texts, in which human relationships often play a role.
Dimensions with frame: 42 x 45 cm
Dimensions without frame: 35 x 39 cm
Framed work.
