Elisabeth Loholt’s monumental 1958 Danish studio ceramic table lamp, 53.5 cm tall with a hand-folded Le Klint pleated shade, signed and dated Loholt 58, in excellent condition and in working order.
Description from the seller
Elisabeth Loholt – Monumental studio-ceramic table lamp – 1958 - with original Le Klint pleated shade – signed and dated
An early and powerful studio work from 1958 by the Danish designer Elisabeth Loholt, fully hand-signed and dated “Loholt 58” on the underside.
This monumental studio-ceramic lamp base (height 40 cm) is paired with a high-quality, hand-folded Le Klint pleated shade — a combination that perfectly fits the Danish design tradition in which craft, textile architecture and ceramics reinforce each other.
Together the total height is approximately 53.5 cm
The base is finished in a deep matte anthracite / graphite glaze with subtle speckling. The manually scratched vertical lines break the surface rhythmically and give the object a graphic dynamism — a refined play of light and shadow that changes with the viewing angle.
The pure conical form rises upright and architectural from the base. This is late-1950s Scandinavian modernism in its pure form: reduction, balance and sculptural presence.
The addition of the Le Klint shade is essential. The hand-folded pleat provides:
• Soft, warm light diffusion
• A visual rhythm that subtly echoes the vertical scratches
• An authentic Danish design context
Without a shade, the base functions as an autonomous sculptural object.
With the Le Klint shade, a balanced and historically coherent design statement emerges.
The year 1958 marks an important phase within Danish studio ceramics. Designers experimented with texture, reduction and architectural forms, away from industrial mass production.
This piece clearly belongs to that artisanal tradition.
The handwritten signature with year confirms:
• Atelier edition
• No later reproduction
• Early dating within the oeuvre
Studio ceramics from this period are increasingly valued on the international collector market for Scandinavian Modern.
