Description from the seller

This rug is a modern replica of a 16th-century Spanish rug from Alcaraz. This type of rug is based on the old Spanish rugs that were woven mainly in the 15th and 16th centuries in the provinces Cuenca and Albacete. In that period these carpets were known all over Europe and their origin is closely linked to the Islamic past in these production areas. Around 1500, after the conquest of parts of Spain from the Moors by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, Spanish rug designers began to favor classically inspired European Renaissance styles over the designs from the Middle East that they knew. The resulting fusion style is mainly found in Alcaraz in southern Castile.

This rug is hand-knotted in Egypt, with wool of the highest quality and with a knot density of around 120,000 knots per m2.

Dimensions:
- 341 x 211 cm

Material:
- wool on cotton

Condition:
