Barrel - Wood - Rice container

Rice storage barrel, lacquered wood and hand-painted. These traditional Asian containers were often made of wood and featured decorations such as garden scenes with figures, trees, animals and pagodas, sometimes with mother-of-pearl inlays.
These objects were not only functional for storing rice, a fundamental and symbolic food in many Asian cultures, but also served as decorative elements or stools/coffee tables in houses and gardens. Overall good condition, minor color loss.
