Description from the seller

Pair of 19th-century trumpet-vase monuments, made by the Pétrus Regout manufactory in Maastricht, one of the great European industrial earthenware works of the second half of the century. These monumental vases, perfectly matched, bear witness to the historicist and japonisant taste then in vogue, while illustrating the technical and decorative mastery achieved by the factory during this period. Their presence is immediately striking, both for their slender proportions and for the richness of their polychrome decoration.

Each vase adopts an elegant, well-balanced silhouette: a circular base slightly flared provides a stable footing, topped by a curvaceous body that gradually narrows toward a long, trumpet-open neck. The upper rim, broadly flared, is accentuated by a decorative frieze that accompanies the opening. The décors are printed and then hand-enhanced: figurative cartouches alternate with ornamental reserves made of stylized foliage, lattices, and geometric motifs. The scenes, inspired by the Far East, depict landscapes, architectures, birds, and flowers, treated in a rich palette blending greens, blues, ochres, pinks, and blacks. Some colors exhibit subtle metallic reflections, almost iridescent, characteristic of Regout production and particularly sensitive to light, adding depth and sophistication to the whole.

The condition is remarkable for pieces of this era. The two vases are in excellent overall condition, with no cracks or repairs. Only a very light loss of material is noted on the upper edge of one vase, a defect due to a firing hair, discreet and without impact on readability or the object's solidity. Each bears beneath the base the factory mark as well as a relief diamond-shaped mark with the letter “R” in the center, an emblematic mark of Pétrus Regout, confirming the authenticity and dating of the set.

Founded in Maastricht at the beginning of the 19th century, the Pétrus Regout manufactory quickly established itself as a major player in European faience, combining industrial production with artistic ambition. In the second half of the century, it developed a wide decorative repertoire inspired by both historic styles and orientalisme then very fashionable, while innovating with effects of texture and color, notably these metallic-reflective glazes. This pair of vases fully fits into this trajectory: it illustrates the factory’s technical know-how, its openness to international influences, and its ability to produce high-quality decorative objects intended to adorn bourgeois interiors of the era.

Average dimensions are:
- Height: 33.5 centimeters,
- Upper diameter: 19.2 centimeters,
- Base diameter: 11.4 centimeters,
- Total weight of the set: 3100 grams.

Each of the two vases will be individually packed and the set will be shipped promptly in secure packaging. On-site pickup and combined delivery are available. Photos are part of the description.
