Antique side table – Amsterdam School – ca. 1920
A characterful and architecturally designed side table in the spirit of the Amsterdam School. This compact piece of furniture breathes the expressive vocabulary of the interwar period: strong lines, massive proportions and a nearly sculptural construction.
The round top rests on three striking, lightly curved supports that widen into a circular lower shelf. The vertical connection between top and base reinforces the monumental character, despite the modest size. The warm wood grain and deep, lived-in color give the piece a rich appearance.
Manufactured from solid wood with a beautiful grain structure. The top and legs show slight discoloration appropriate to age, which contributes to the authentic patina. At the underside, a support batten was once added to reinforce a cracked part of the top. This intervention is functionally executed and safeguards stability without compromising the aesthetic whole.
Condition
Good, stable condition with signs of use and slight discoloration consistent with age. Old repair at the underside of the top (see photos). Structurally solid and ready to place.
