Box - Victoriano - Wood - Equestrian brushes

It is a Victorian box from the early 20th century made of oak wood, conceived to store and organize equestrian brushes, three of which are kept alongside it, including one that stands out for being original from the 19th century. The set has that functional and elegant character typical of equestrian accessories of the era, where the quality of the material and durability were essential.

The oak box

The structure is made of solid oak, with a warm tone and a marked grain that reveals both the nobility of the material and its age. The design is simple but robust: straight lines, inclined lid and an interior designed to house the brushes in an orderly way. The natural wear — small marks, darkening in areas of use, softened edges — adds authenticity without compromising its stability. The rear perforations suggest it could have hung in a stable or in a tack room.

The equestrian brushes

The three brushes show different degrees of age and use.

• The oldest, from the 19th century, preserves its traditional shape with a wooden handle and natural bristles, and presents a dark patina from decades of handling.
• The other two, already at the turn of the century, maintain the same artisanal spirit: turned wood, dense bristles and a design intended for horse care. One of them includes an upper leather strap, typical of handheld brushes used for the final brushing.

Historical and functional value

This type of sets was common in stables of a certain level, where both the horse’s hygiene and the presentation of the equipment were cared for. The combination of a well-built oak box and brushes from different eras makes the piece a small testament to Victorian equestrian culture and the early 20th century.
