Description from the seller
Character Icon: Marcel Breuer’s Wassily Chair B3 for Gavina – Cognac Leather Edition
We present at auction an authentic milestone of 20th-century design: the Wassily chair (Model B3) in its warmest, most tactile version. This piece, produced by Gavina, stands out for the exceptional patina of the leather that tells its story, making it a unique item for charm and personality.
Design and History: The Tubular Revolution
Designed by Marcel Breuer in 1925 at the Bauhaus, the Wassily marked the birth of modern furniture:
Cycling Inspiration: Breuer, inspired by the frame of his Adler bicycle, used steel tubing for the first time in a household furnishing, creating a lightweight, transparent structure that seems to float in space.
The Gavina Edition: In the 1960s, Dino Gavina earned credit for rediscovering this project, reintroducing it with a manufacturing quality that has made these versions the most beloved by collectors worldwide.
Lot Conditions: The Charm of Authenticity
This lot is dedicated to those who seek the soul of the original vintage object. It is not presented as a recent production, but as a piece of furniture rich with lived history:
Cognac Leather: The brown/cognac leather strips show heavy wear, a feature that gives the chair a warmth and an unparalleled aesthetic depth. Despite the evident patina of time, the leather is intact and sturdy, and all seams are in order, ensuring the seat’s perfect hold.
Frame: The steel tubular frame is in excellent structural condition. It shows some oxidation marks appropriate to the era, which we have chosen to preserve as a historical authenticity hallmark of the piece.
Care Intervention: The chair has undergone our usual deep cleaning. The steel has been polished and the leather treated with professional conditioning products to revitalize the leather and preserve its original softness.
Authenticity: Originality is guaranteed by the Gavina label on the frame.

Acquiring this Wassily means choosing a piece of history that has gained beauty over the decades. It is an object that does not fear time, but celebrates it, perfect for enriching a cultured interior with a touch of “lived-in” timeless elegance.
The Designer: Marcel Breuer
A Bauhaus pioneer, Breuer transformed industrial materials into functional poetry. The Wassily is not just a chair, but the first expression of a new way of living, where lightness replaces volume.
The Manufacturer: Gavina
Dino Gavina was the visionary who brought Breuer’s masterpieces back to light. The quality of materials chosen by Gavina in the 1960s is what allows this chair, after more than half a century, to still be solid, functional, and extraordinarily captivating.
