Description from the seller
- Oil on canvas. Original canvas.
- Born in Amsterdam and trained under the tutelage of Henri Boot, Josef Santen was an award-winning artist linked to the Haarlem circle and president of the Kunst zij ons doel society. His career is closely tied to Anton Heyboer, with whom he lived in his early days, which years after his death placed him at the center of a forgery scandal; it is suspected that a collection of engravings from the "Heyday of Haarlem" by Heyboer, whose authenticity is disputed by his widows but defended by other experts, may have originated in Santen's old workshop.
- Image dimensions without frame: 31 x 40 cm
