Description from the seller
Molded pressed glass table mirror – Late 19th / early 20th century
Elegant table mirror in molded pressed glass, of great decorative finesse, measuring 30 cm in height and 19 cm in width.
The frame, richly carved, features an allegorical decor with two female figures treated in relief, with soft and naturalistic drapery, characteristic of the transition between the nascent Art Nouveau style and the Symbolist heritage of the late 19th century.
The central mirror, oval in shape, is bevel-edged, a revealing detail of careful and high-quality production, typical of decorative pieces from the end of the 19th century – the very beginning of the 20th century. It is highlighted by an elegant gilded surround with a pearl-like pattern, bringing contrast and refinement to the whole.
The pressed glass technique, very popular at that time, as well as the decorative vocabulary used, point to a French or European production, probably from the major glass centers of Eastern France or Bohemia, renowned for this type of decorative objects for bourgeois interiors.
A decorative piece of great charm, both sculptural and functional, ideal for a dressing table, a desk or a display cabinet; this mirror testifies to the refined taste of the Belle Époque and constitutes a choice object for lovers of antique decorative arts.
