Description from the seller
SWITZERLAND. Bern. 5 Francs. 1948
- Value: 5 Francs.
- Year: 1948.
- Inscriptions: On the obverse, HELVETIA accompanying the allegorical female seated beside a child bearing a branch, with the engraver WEGER's signature; on the reverse, 5 FR · CONSTITUTIO · ANNI MDCCCXLVIII · HELVETIAE FORTIORIS FUNDAMENTUM · 1948, with a Swiss cross at the bottom.
- Grade: MS64 (NGC).
Commemorative coin issued to mark the centenary of the Swiss Federal Constitution of 1848, the foundational text of the modern Swiss federal state. The obverse presents an allegorical composition of high artistic quality, in which Helvetia appears as a maternal and protective figure, accompanied by a child who symbolizes the nation’s future, with a soft and balanced modeling of the volumes. The reverse, solemn and epigraphic in character, stands out for its clear typographic arrangement and the strong symbolic charge of the Swiss cross, reinforcing the institutional message of stability and constitutional continuity. The specimen preserves an attractive original shine with light, uniform patina, well-defined reliefs and clean fields, showing only slight contact marks consistent with the MS64 grade, making it a very representative and valued piece within 20th-century Swiss commemorative numismatics.
Disclaimer: For orders shipped outside the European Union, I want to make absolutely clear that I do ship from Spain, which means that if the package is sent to any country outside the European Union, and/or within the EU that has a special tax agreement (e.g., Canary Islands), it might be stopped at your local customs and they might ask you to pay taxes. This is a customs procedure and is completely out of our control. Thanks for your understanding.
