Description from the seller
This ceramic vase, made in Spain in the second half of the 20th century, belongs to that line of decorative pieces where craft and formal experimentation combine to create objects with a strong sculptural presence. Its bulging body and narrow neck are integrated into a surface that imitates tree bark, a highly characteristic feature of certain Spanish workshops that, between the fifties and eighties, explored organic textures and rustic finishes to give ceramics a more naturalistic and expressive air.
The relief decoration is the most distinctive element. The birds, modeled with generous volume and a level of detail that highlights feathers, beaks, and posture, cling to the body of the vase as if they formed part of a living trunk. The color palette, dominated by soft whites with bluish and pinkish hues, contrasts with the earthy brown background, which accentuates a sense of depth and makes the figures the visual protagonists. The large leaves surrounding the birds reinforce the tropical character and evoke an exotism very present in Spanish decorative ceramics of the period, influenced both by late Modernism and by the rise of organic design in interiors.
This type of piece is often associated with authorial productions or workshops that worked in small series, where each vase displayed variations in modeling and painting. Its value lies in the combination of ceramic technique and applied sculpture, in the expressiveness of the reliefs, and in the naturalistic aesthetics that place it within a highly regarded current in the second half of the 20th century.
Tracked shipping and careful packaging.
