Description from the seller
PORTUGAL. Lisbon. 5 Escudos. 1947.
- Value: 5 Escudos.
- Year: 1947.
- Inscriptions: REPÚBLICA PORTUGUESA with a caravel sailing and the date at the bottom; on the reverse, the Portuguese national shield over the armillary sphere and the value 5$00.
- Grade: MS65 (NGC).
Circulating coin of the Portuguese Republic issued in the postwar period, during the Estado Novo. The obverse features an elegant caravel with sails unfurled, crossing the sea, a clear allusion to Portugal’s maritime and exploratory tradition, with a dynamic and well-balanced design. The reverse shows the national shield over the armillary sphere, a historic symbol of the country, with crisp relief and correct proportion of the heraldic elements. The specimen stands out for its excellent preservation, with highly attractive original luster, a uniform silver tone, and notably clean fields, characteristics that fully justify its high MS65 grade and make it a particularly representative and sought-after piece within twentieth-century Portuguese numismatics.
Disclaimer: For orders shipped outside the European Union, I want to be absolutely clear that I do ship from Spain, which means that if the package is sent to any country outside the European Union, and/or inside the EU that has a special tax agreement (example: Canary Islands), it might be stopped in your local customs and they might ask you to pay taxes. This is a customs legal procedure and it is completely out of our control. Thanks for your understanding.
