Superb original illustrated edition of 250 drawings, 25 illustrations in the text with a frontispiece in engraving, 7 lithographs and 8 chromo colors -
Albert Robida is an artist of many talents: press caricaturist (collaborator of La Caricature - which he founded with publisher Georges Decaux, Journal Amusant, Paris Comique, Le Monde Illustré, La Vie Parisienne.), book illustrator (Rabelais, Villon, Balzac, George Sand.), writer (he blends text and drawings in his short stories), journalist (war reporter during the Commune, at the Vienna World Exhibition 1873.). A member of the Humorists, French Artists, he received the Legion of Honour -
After 1890, he took a particular interest in the history of Paris, taking an active part in defending architectural heritage by publishing "Paris de siècle en siècle" (1895) and Le Cœur de Paris (1896).
The Exposition Universelle of 1900 gave him the opportunity to express his passion for reconstructions with the creation of "Vieux Paris" of which he is at once the designer and the master builder. This Exposition attraction, with its monuments, its inhabitants and its tradespeople in period costume, met with great success -

Very good condition of the binding, the work in its half-chagrin-to-edges brown edition, light signs of wear, corners worn, top edge gilded, spine with five raised bands adorned with rosettes and golden motifs, gilded lettering and author’s name, boards framed by a gold border, covered with a red-orange-green marbled paper -
Good interior condition, rare foxing, title page printed in red and black, work enriched with drawings, title-page vignettes, black-and-white tailpieces, as well as 25 lithographed plates hors-texte, including the frontispiece engraved by etching (under serpentine), and 7 color plates by A. Robida, marbled endpapers in good condition -
