Bronze rope guide, a belaying chock, of Dutch origin, dating to circa 1930–1950, weighing 2600 g and measuring 22 cm wide by 7 cm high by 5 cm deep; in good used condition with small signs of aging and spotting.
Description from the seller
An old rope guide (also known as a fairlead or chock), made in heavy bronze.
This type of fitting is an essential part of equipment on a ship or at a quay.
Function and Use:
A chock serves as a guide for dock lines or towing hawsers. The rounded shapes ensure that the line does not chafe or jam while the ship moves through waves or tides.
The opening at the top allows quickly laying a line into the chock without having to thread the rope end all the way through.
Attachment: At the bottom (see photo 3) you can see two mounting holes. This is why the chock was securely fixed to the deck or the bulwark of a ship with bolts.
The chock shows deep, characteristic grooves from mooring lines and hawsers, a testament to years of intensive use on the water. In authentic used condition with beautiful natural patina and signs of wear.
The chock is still perfectly usable. But also very decorative in a maritime setting or nautical collection.
Many photos added so the condition of the chock can be well assessed. Also a photo with a pen so the size is easy to determine.
Photos are part of the description.
The chock is packaged very carefully, sent by registered mail and insured with a track and trace code.

Will not be shipped to the United States.
