Description from the seller
Prestigious Bonheur-du-jour Bureau of the Napoleonic III era in Exotic Woods and Miniature Plaques
Extraordinary Bonheur-du-jour center desk from the Napoleonic III era, a superb expression of Parisian cabinetmaking of the late nineteenth century. The piece, originating from a prestigious historic residence, stands out for its exceptional craftsmanship and the extremely refined decorative scheme typical of furnishings destined for the palaces of the aristocracy of the era.
The structure is entirely veneered with precious exotic woods, with expansive surfaces in walnut burl and bois de rose, creating a chromatic contrast of great elegance. The furniture is adorned with porcelain plaques inlaid in the stand, finely hand-painted with gallant scenes inspired by the eighteenth century and signed, protected by frames in gilded bronze. At the center of the stand a niche decorated with a torch crowned by a laurel wreath in chased bronze stands out, a symbol of victory and wisdom.
The writing surface, with the original leather insert decorated in gold, conceals a large hidden drawer beneath the top. The ornamentation in gilded bronze is omnipresent and of the highest level: from the female figure caryatids that adorn the upper uprights to the elegant sabots that terminate the curled legs, every element has been chiseled with artisanal mastery. The elongated silhouette and harmonious proportions render this writing desk a piece for a high-end collection, capable of dominating the room with its history and its unmistakable aura of nobility.
