Description from the seller
This lamp reflects the aesthetics of Napoleon III style reinterpreted in the first half of the 20th century, when workshops continued producing decorative objects inspired by historicism with noble materials and a luxurious finish. The body is made of white marble, worked with a curved silhouette that recalls the vases and balustrades used in palace decoration of the Second Empire. That sculptural, solid, and elegant form serves as the visual axis of the piece.
The elements of gilded bronze provide the ornamental character of the style: moldings, decorative rings, and finials inspired by the French classical repertoire, with vegetal motifs and sinuous lines that evoke the craftsmanship of the 19th century. The warm gilding contrasts with the cool marble surface and accentuates the sense of a luxury object. The square base, also marble and topped with bronze, reinforces the lamp’s stability and architectural presence.
Although its formal language recalls the Second Empire, the integrated electrification — metal socket, ignition chain, and original wiring — places its manufacture in a moment when electric lighting had already been part of the design from the start. This makes it a representative example of how, in the first decades of the 20th century, nineteenth-century models were reinterpreted to fit bourgeois and eclectic interiors of the era.
