Description from the seller
SILVER STRASS CROSS PENDANT – ANCIENT FRENCH-MASONIC ROSE-CROIX KNIGHT EMPIRE PERIOD – early 19th century
Ancient Masonic Cross in Silver and Enamel with Strass – Mystic Pelican and Symbols of the Passion
Radiant cross in silver set with strass, notable for its remarkable symbolic richness.
It is double-faced:
Face 1: depiction of the mystic pelican feeding its young, a strong Christian symbol and also used in Masonic symbolism as a representation of sacrifice and charity.
Face 2: reverse Masonic emblem with the cross, the Instruments of the Passion (nails, crown, ladder), on a mother-of-pearl lilac enamel background with the inscription INRI.
All arranged on a radiating field of old-sized scintillating strass stones set flush, in a silver mount featuring a sunburst motif.
The enamel decoration, hand-painted, is very fine, executed on a pearly background with gold accents.
For the silver (acid test positive, visible on the last photo)
Dimensions: 7.5 x 6 cm without its bale
Condition:
Very good overall condition. Some small traces of wear on the strass but overall bright and very decorative.
Collector’s piece
This cross is a fine example of symbolic and Masonic iconography, used in certain rites or higher grades, notably those of knightly chapters (Rosicrucian order, etc.). Its quality of craftsmanship, decorative richness, and reversible character make it a relatively uncommon collectible object.
The photos are an integral part of the object description and complement its presentation. Please examine them carefully before bidding.
The item will be carefully packed and shipped with a tracking number to ensure fast and secure delivery.”
