Köhler Sewing machine - Metal

Beautiful antique Köhler sewing machine, complete with original wooden case.

Serial number 1236404.

This machine was made by Hermann Köhler from Altenburg at the end of the 1890s.

The machine features a porcelain handle and an inlaid ruler in the foot.

The sewing machine shows signs of wear appropriate for its age, but is still in good condition.

The case bears the Köhler logo.

Not tested; functionality and completeness unknown.

In 1871 L.O. Dietrich, H. Köhler, and G. Winselmann began producing sewing machines under the name L.O. Dietrich & Co. in Altenburg, Germany.
In 1877 Köhler and Winselmann left to establish their own company.
In 1892 Winselmann also left to start his own company, taking many employees with him.
Hermann Köhler, however, continued the production of machines successfully.
