Description from the seller

Antique ivory Rococo hand mirror with putti and monogram –
Description
A particularly distinctive and finely carved antique ivory hand- or dressing mirror from the 19th century, executed in an elegant Rococo style. The mirror is crowned by two beautifully carved putti (cherubs) who together hold an oval cartouche bearing a carved monogram. This monogram suggests that the object was originally manufactured as a personal luxury toilet item.

The mirror is surrounded by a decorative pearl border and features a classically shaped facet-cut mirror glass with soft Rococo lines. The whole is carved with great finesse and displays the characteristic vocabulary of the late Baroque/Rococo period.

Such mirrors were often part of a boudoir or dressing-table set for the well-to-do bourgeoisie and nobility. They were used as personal toilet mirrors and were often produced by specialized ivory and bone carvers.
