Description from the seller
Crystal Butter Dish – ca. 1880 – Netherlands – etched crystal with a solid silver (.833) mount
An elegant and refined table piece from the late 19th century: this crystal butter dish is mounted with a solid silver frame (.833) and dates from circa 1880, a period in which richly laid tables and well-kept silverware formed an important part of bourgeois dining culture.
The dish is made of clear crystal and features fine etched decorations, consisting of graceful motifs that give the surface subtle depth and elegance. The crystal rests in a silver mount of .833 fineness, as was common in the Netherlands in the 19th century. The mount forms a beautiful frame around the glass and gives the whole a stately appearance.
Such butter dishes often formed part of extensive place settings and were used for presenting butter or small dishes during formal dinners.
